Essay

I count, you count, we ALL count!

By Carlos Molina- PS.188

What I learned about the census is how they count everyone in the United States and it is done every ten years.  They ask about their race, gender, and how many people are in one household. It is important for everyone to do the census. If more than one family does not do the census, they will not be counted and they will not be provided with what they need like hospitals, roads, fire departments, and schools. If the entire community is counted then it will help us get the funding that is needed, where we need it most.

It would impact my community if a lot of people do not take the census. It can impact me because education is important to me and the census results can change education planning, funding for afterschool programs for students with working families, and school lunches for all students as well.  If we are not counted then it’s like we do not exists and we as a community will not get what we need to have a successful life.
